    PARIS-SACLAY: CMMS for cutting-edge education

    PARIS-SACLAY: CMMS for cutting-edge education

Opening in 2020, the new campus of ENS Paris-Saclay (École Normale Supérieure) spans more than 100,000 m² (65,000 m of floor space, 84,500 m² in total and 10,000 m² of gardens) and brings together state-of-the-art scientific facilities and infrastructures. As soon as the campus was created, the school chose to manage the maintenance of its facilities using CARL Source Facility CMMS .

University maintenance: the ENS Paris-Saclay multi-site model

ENS Paris-Saclay is one of France’s leading engineering schools, with 11 departments, 12 laboratories and 2 research institutes training over 400 students each year for careers in research and higher education.

Maintenance management is overseen by the School’s technical team of 10 technicians and by 3 key service providers (multi-technical, cleaning, security) who maintain the buildings and the 42,700 items of scientific and technical equipment on the Campus (hydraulic presses, L3 laboratory, ISO6 clean room, concrete plant, etc.). In 2023, their scope has been extended to include the university’s library and media center (100,000 m2), making maintenance part of a multi-site management approach.

The CARL Source solution solution was deployed on the ENS site in just 6 months, during which time CARL Software teams integrated the school’s own criticality criteria to ensure that requests were processed in line with contractual commitments.

CARL Source: CMMS SaaS for centralizing infrastructure, equipment, vehicles and inventory

Gradual implementation across the entire fleet, on the move and in SaaS.

CARL Source’s strength: centralizing a wide range of equipment processes in a single database. After infrastructures and scientific equipment, CMMS has been extended to the vehicle fleet, as well as to the monitoring of chemical product and waste inventories.

The result: unified, centralized management and a high level of service for students and staff alike.

Deployed right from the start of the project, CARL Touch mobilitywas first adopted by service providers, then by ENS technicians and managers.
    The benefits are quickly identifiable:

    • For managers: simplified assignment, real-time monitoring, enhanced traceability.
    • For technicians: instant access to jobs, equipment history, precise tracking and task completion on the tablet.

2025: transition to SaaS and CARL Flash, change of scale.

In 2025, CARL Source will migrate to SaaS. The aim is to free the IT Department from server management and deploy CARL Flash, the reporting application, without constraining the school’s IT processes.

As a result, over 300 users (employees and contractors) can now report a malfunction in just a few clicks.

CARL Flash: Request and quickly discuss with technical services

The benefits of CARL Flash –
    Simplified, intelligent reporting

    • Significant increase in the number of reports.
    • Improved quality of information (photo-enhanced reporting directly from the smartphone).
    • Clear visualization of criticality.
    • 15 structured areas to quickly orient each request.
    • Automatic creation of requestor via e-mail address.
    • Profile control by e-mail identification.
    • Real-time monitoring: the applicant is kept informed at every stage of processing.

“With SaaS and CARL Flash, we opted for autonomy, simplicity and efficiency. It’s been a minor revolution in terms of usage: no more multiple channels and complex procedures. Now we have a single, simple and accessible point of entry. A successful gamble,” enthuses JC Keller.
