CARL, a subsidiary of the French Berger-Levrault Group, develops innovative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for industrial and facility maintenance, integrating AI into its CARL Source software solution. As a result, CARL Berger-Levrault is transforming Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Asset Management (EAM) to meet the challenges of Industry 5.0 and, more specifically, Maintenance 5.0.
Berger-Levrault invests in research and innovation driven by its in-house laboratory dedicated to artificial intelligence and its academic partnerships (Inria, CNRS…). Several AI-enabled solutions have already been developed, including:
- BL.Predict, IoT and preventive maintenance platform, for processing and analyzing hot data using algorithms (AI, statistics).
BL.Predict enables you to act at the right time by improving your understanding of equipment operation and detecting weak signals of drift.
BL.Predict is based on machine learning and contributes to increasing the durability of equipment and infrastructures. The expected gains are a 15% optimization of equipment performance and lifespan, as well as a 25% reduction in operating costs and a 15% reduction in energy costs.
- BL.Optim automatically generates and optimizes technician schedules. Schedule optimization considers field constraints such as machine availability calendars, agent authorizations and skills…
BL.Optim is based on planning optimization algorithms that save an estimated 20-70% of time for planners and managers involved in planning tasks. The solution also contributes to energy sobriety by reducing travel times and the number of people involved.
From 2025 onwards, CARL Berger-Levrault will continue this dynamic of innovation with the deployment of generative AI solutions dedicated to maintenance.
CARL Berger-Levrault will be offering:
- A support wizard created for CARL Source CMMS users to answer a number of questions about using the solution.
Based on several artificial intelligence models, users will interrogate the assistant, in natural language, to find the answer to their question stored in multiple sources (product documentation, FAQs, knowledge bases…).
- A maintenance helper enabling field players to interact directly with their CMMS.
CARL Berger-Levrault’s maintenance assistant will support technicians, team leaders and decision-makers, using a simple written or voice request, to:
✅ Assist with troubleshooting diagnostics in the field, by analyzing fault histories, FMECA analyses and equipment technical documentation.
✅ Facilitate the creation of maintenance work reports in natural language, thus increasing knowledge of assets and equipment.
✅ Obtain effortless key information by simply formulating the object of the search, such as “In which location can I find the SKF 6306R bearing?” or “How many Maintenance works were carried out last year on the MAT-002 machine?”.
This maintenance assistant takes advantage of the most advanced technologies in artificial intelligence, made possible by Large Language Models (LLMs) specifically trained to meet this need, as well as Intelligent Agent technologies.
Our solutions are currently being tested with pioneering partner customers to guarantee performance tailored to the maintenance field.
With these innovations, CARL Berger-Levrault continues to strengthen its position as European leader and pioneer in AI applied to maintenance management, pursuing its ambition to sustainably transform the sector by meeting the challenges of Maintenance 5.0.
