Established in more than 120 countries around the world, the company has its own manufacturing workshops in the United States and Europe. In 2009, Lindt & Sprüngli embarked on a Lean manufacturing approach and uses a CMMS software to achieve its objectives of monitoring, improving production and lean management. The CARL Source Factory CMMS solution is rolled out in its Swiss, French and Italian factories.

The CARL Source Factory CMMS solution

In 2009, a first test base was installed on the French site of Oloron St Marie to allow technicians to get used to the solution and discover the functional options of the product. The installation of barcodes on all plant equipment began at the same time. Lindt teams created their performance indicators; all are personalized according to the user’s profile, “the extended setting of the CARL Source software being one of its big assets” according to Mr. Farraku, maintenance engineer.

After being trained by CARL Berger-Levrault consultants, Lindt’s main managers organize “very quick training for technicians because it is a fairly intuitive tool” says Mr. Farruku.
In 2015, the Lindt workshops rolled out the mobility solution CARL Touch to improve the efficiency of their maintenance operations.

The project continued to grow in 2018 with the CMMS / MES interface; This allows real-time collection of production data, analysis and automatic generation of work requests.

Consequences for the maintenance and management operations

From the CMMS / MES interface, requests for work automatically arrive at CARL Source and are assigned to an available technician. This significant time saving is bolstered by the use of CARL Touch mobility which allows the technician to have the technical data of the equipment and the history of previous work, directly at the foot of the machine.

With CARL Source Factory, storekeepers gain in efficiency during inventories and unloading from the warehouse.

Measuring the efficiency of the maintenance department using indicators

As part of the Lean method, Mr. Farruku measures the efficiency of the maintenance department using the CARL Source indicators. Maintenance engineers analyze CMMS data to “understand how we spend the hours of our technicians and spare parts, by type of intervention or by type of equipment.”

With the help of monthly reviews, “we can make decisions on what improvements to make to reduce failures to zero.” This information can also be viewed by department managers to analyze their activity!
